Baby Walruses

Filed under: Mainely Rat Rescue,Rats! — folkcat at 11:57 pm on Thursday, January 1, 2009

I thought we were raising baby rats. If you look at this picture, however (click on any image below to embiggen), you might think we’re raising miniature, pink, baby walruses.

Look at those muzzlepowshes! Those little whiskers! The itty-bitty ears!

Can’t see the whiskers yet? Try now:

Other details are starting to come in, too, like the toes and claws:

I have taken another good look at the genders – need the practice with babies this small! – and I’m convinced now that my initial count was correct. Four girls, four boys. How orderly!

Here are the girls:

And here are the boys:

*sigh* We could just die of the cute, couldn’t we?

Congratulations on the babies, Jen! They are indeed cute. Hope Momma doesn’t get worn out caring for them. And hope you don’t get worn out snapping all those photos! Irresistible.

Ohhhh … Serious Cute Factor !

Maybe name them after the 7 Dwarfs and then add another name? Maybe Numbers?

Jeesh… such a decision.

They are cuter today. Still a bit weird, but cuter. and the plural of walrus is walri. Okay, maybe not, but I couldn’t resist!

Whoops, I’m tuning in a little late (December was kookoo!) but I have been catching up on the Rattie news and pics. What fun! I’m so thrilled that you are doing so much for the rats, especially at a challenging time for you guys, too. Thinking of you and hoping for a better 2009 for you, Gryphon and the rat-menagerie!

love and hugs…

Oh, goodness, those little guys are absolutely adorable! And they do look like tiny baby walruses – I actually found myself looking for the emergence of tusks.
