A Break in the Knitting

Filed under: Knitting — folkcat at 5:19 pm on Friday, November 3, 2006

Not by choice. It seems that I knit away so feverishly on the Christmas knitting at Panera last night that I have aches in my wrist today. So I should probably take it a bit easy.

I do have a new Christmas knitting project that I’m going to be able to blog about. I decided this year that my knitted gift for Gryphon wasn’t going to be a secret. Instead, part of the gift is that he got to help decide on the pattern and yarn, and he gets to enjoy the anticipation of watching his special item come together.

So what’s Gryphon getting for Christmas?

This!

"We Call Them Pirates" pattern and yarn

Pattern: We Call Them Pirates

We’ve all seen what a wonderful pirate Gryphon makes. And he wears a knitted hat routinely during the cold weather. So why not one with an attitude? Gryphon went with me to the yarn shop to pick out the right color and fiber for a yarn. We’re going with Encore DK, because machine-washable is an important factor for us.

This will be my first fair isle style knitting, so it should be an interesting experience. I still need to check my tool supplies, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to buy the right size needles for this. Oh, foo. I’ll have to buy needles. Heck and darnation. That means another trip to the yarn shop…

I’m sure you can tell how annoyed I am!

Ahoy! I have NO idea how people knit images into their things, but I admire those who do . . . I thought fair isle was the style with alot of cabling, often in a diamond pattern, and stuff.
