Night of the Living DVD

It’s alive! But that fact is even more mysterious than the way the DVD player seemed to have died.

Gryphon got home from work last night, rechecked everything I had checked on the dead DVD player, and pulled out the electricals from the back to make sure it hadn’t gotten itself unplugged or something. Nada. Still completely non-responsive.

So today, he pulls the unit out of the entertainment center. It’s old enough to be long past warranty, so we lose nothing by having him open it up to check the fuse inside. (Did you know these things had replaceable fuses in them? I didn’t!) He does, and the fuse is perfectly good. So he plugs the player in to check it again, and it came on, no problems whatsoever.

It’s now been put back in place in the entertainment center, and it’s still working. Best we can guess, I had left it on the last time I used it, and it went into it’s power-saving hibernation mode and got stuck there. Unplugging it maybe gave the machine a hard reset and put it back in order. That’s what we’re believing, anyhow.

I’ll take it. It means I can go back to my original plan of getting some more KnitPicks needles, a few reference books, etc., instead of having to buy a replacement player.

I am feeling much relieved today.

On the other hand, I’m harboring some unsettling feelings about our apparently undead zombie DVD player. What do you think – sleep with a metal colander on my head to keep it from eating my brains? Or does that only work with aliens?

(insert creepy zombie sound here)

Lol. Glad it’s working again. Ours has started acting up a little; pausing for 5-10 seconds at the layer change (far too long), or pausing at some random point of the movie in the first half. Not really pausing, but more like the playing of the picture is/gets stuck. We go back to the menu and go to chapters and get back to the place, but it’s annoying. It’s only done this last a few times, and only in the last month, but we know its days are numbered. Hopefully it’ll be ok for awhile though, especially since my sweetie gave me Wonder Woman Season 2 for Valentine’s and I’m only on disc two!

How long have you been knitting? Is it never ending, the need for more needles? Lol . . . Hubby and I have, each of the last three days, and once earlier in the week, each used 40% off coupon on various bamboo needles. They’d really add up w/out those coupons. I’ve told him today, though, that once I find a 16″ 10-1/2 circular, I can do w/what I have for awhile. Once I’ve used that circular and finished a project on it, then I’ll know if I like that sort of thing and can consider the KP Options, instead of willy nilly buying various multiple lengths and sizes of individual circs . . . will have to wait about 6-8 weeks to fit that in the budget, but $60 isn’t bad considering I’ve heard the cables are excellent, and it’d save me spending $5 here, $7 there, $4 here, on whatever circular needles. That’d add up to $60 fast . . . .

Anyway, sorry to go on so long!!!! I figure to use a circ first before I consider more of ’em, although I’m pretty sure now that I’m in this knitting thing to stay! (bought a ton of Sugar & Cream for $1.25 this week per skein, twas on sale, and I’m loving dishcloth patterns and designing one as we speak! Okay, blog post forthcoming, I just didn’t want to post on the financial stuff of considering circulars on mine as my parents read my blog lol.)

Please. I have NO luck whatsoever with technology and that catagory has now grown to include the telephone. It doesn’t like me. None of it likes me. Maybe your DVD player has decided it doesn’t like you. Have you asked it? ;-))
