Warm Hands; and, Don't Forget - Knitting Around in Public Tonight!

From the Comments Bin:

Regarding my November 9th post:

Judith says, "That is a bittersweet vine - beautiful colors, but quite invasive and hard to get rid of."

Thank you, Judith! I know so little when it comes to identifying the wild plants around here, and it may seem shameful, but I don't feel inclined to diligently educate myself in the matter, either. I'm content with being inspired by how beautiful they are without necessarily knowing what they are. Plus, my readers have a 100% track record when it comes to providing identification for my mystery plants! Thank you, readers!

Both Judith and Jessalu have said they're going to try out the free desktop wallpaper from yesterday's post. I couldn't be more thrilled! I love taking these photos, and it was a sudden whim to offer one as a wallpaper. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do - it's the wallpaper on my own computer right now.

My Hands Will Be Warm This Year

How about yours? After I posted yesterday about my fingerless mitts that are under construction, I actually finished the first one today before remembering - Sandy is having a Warm Hands Knit-a-Long, and suddenly, I qualified!

Fingerless Mitt #1 Completed
Halfway There!
I have finished the first mitt, and I like it. The second has been cast-on and is underway even as we speak.

The picture shows the colors fairly accurately. I like the mix a lot, though I'm not entirely sold on the dark blue component. I might have chosen a lighter color for the contrast there, maybe a magenta or yellow.

Gryphon tried this mitt on today, too, to see what he thought. He's concluded that it's an interesting concept, and that he would consider wearing a pair if the color was right. We may wind up doing some yarn shopping for him.

I'll report more fully about the needles, the process, and my final evaluation of the finished objects, well....when I have finished objects to test. I may even post the pattern, though I'm sure it's not that different from many fingerless mitts out there. It's knit from the top (fingers) down, with a simple modified buttonhole for the thumb.

Knitting Around Tonight!

Remember, tonight is Knitting Around (in Public) [KA(iP)] night at Panera Bread, Amherst St., Nashua, NH. (The one by Target.) Craft Goddess (CG) Bea and I will be gathering at Panera with our tea and knitting around 6 p.m., and any knitter within the sound of this blog is welcome to join us.* If you show up a little early, no worries - CG Bea may be there already, and you can always just plunk down in a chair near the fireplace and start without us, too!

Thinking ahead to next week, there's another KA(iP) opportunity in the Milford area on Monday evening. The monthly gathering of eats, knits, and leaves takes place at the Toadstool Bookstore in Lorden Plaza from 7 to 9 p.m. This has been a lot of fun every month, with an amazing mix of talented new and experienced knitters in attendance - and an amazing assortment of fresh brewed herbal teas and home baked goodies! If you're in the area, with or without your knitting (but be honest - are you ever without it?), please join us!

That's all for today - I need to go eat an early dinner now so I can get some errands done before KA(iP)! Hope to see some of you there!

*KA(iP) notes: A gentle reminder - since this gathering is not an official Panera event, please be courteous to our unwitting hosts at Panera, and expect to be there as a customer. Even just a small soda or tea will do. We like KA(iP)'ing at Panera, and we don't want them to feel put out by our presence. Thank you!
